Course Description

This program is designed for persons who are required to enter and work in confined spaces but do not require competency in breathing apparatus or emergency response. The course provides participants with the WH&S and legislative requirements and procedures to ensure the health, safety and welfare of persons required to work in confined spaces. This course involves an introduction to emergency response procedures and considerations for first aid and fire fighting in a confined space context. This course does not train or assess competency in breathing apparatus.

• Legislation, terminology and definitions
  
• Protective equipment (including breathing apparatus)

Pre-Requisite and Entry Requirements

Students holding a previous certification for the units of competency and are seeking  must supply their credential at the time of enrolment.

Students must have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. An LLN assessment may be conducted upon receipt of enrolment application to ensure each student has the appropriate level of skills required to undertake this confined space course.

Certification

Students who successfully complete our confined space course and demonstrate competence will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The certification will be issued by Risk Response and Rescue (RTO 90774).

How long does confined space training last in Australia?

While the Australian Government doesn't have a set timeframe for the renewal of confined space entry and work certification, industry standards recommend renewal every 2 years. At Risk Response, we offer a confined space training refresher course designed for individuals who have previously attained competency to work safely in such environments.

Is confined space training a legal requirement?

Yes, confined space training is a legal requirement for anyone who is required to enter and work in confined spaces. Examples of confined spaces include, but are not limited to, storage tanks, pressure vessels, tank cars, tunnels, pipes, sewers, boilers, and silos.

Can you do a confined space course online?

There are online-only confined space training courses, but the certifications you'll get from them are not nationally accredited or recognised. At Risk Response, we offer two options: face-to-face learning or a blend of online and face-to-face. Our blended-learning solution allows you to complete some of your learning online, followed by a day of face-to-face practical demonstrations to assess your competence in safe confined space entry and work.

RIIWHS202E is the nationally recognised unit of competence for working safely in a confined space. The practical training required to receive this unit of competency will teach you a range of skills including, but not limited to, how to recognise and avoid hazards in a confined space, how to operate various confined space safety equipment, as well as how to safely conduct confined space entry operations.
